Tip #1

Don’t pretend to be someone you are not just because you’ll have a room full of people listening. Your vows are supposed to be for your partner, not your audience. If you’re funny- let your vows be funny. If you’re sappy- bring on the tears! Keep them true to who you are as a couple.

Tip #2

During your time as an engaged couple, use the notes section on your phone to keep a list of the little things your partner does that put a smile of your face. It’s those little moments you share together that add up to the special bond the two of you have created. Be sure to jot down those thoughts so you have plenty of inspiration when you begin writing your own vows.

Tip #3

Flip through books of poems and Pinterest quotes to find special sayings or phrases that stick out to you. You can always quote someone else in your vows and use it to draw inspiration for the rest of what you’ll choose to say. We promise this still counts as writing your own vows!

Tip #4

Are there married couples in your life that you currently look up to? Ask them for their favorite piece of advice and use that as inspiration for what you’ll vow in your own marriage.

Tip #5

Don’t overshare. While it’s sweet to include inside jokes and memories from the past, you don’t want to include anything that you’ll be uncomfortable saying in front of your grandparents.

Tip #6

Rehearse! You may be nervous on your wedding day and having a sense of what you’ll be saying will help you avoid fumbling around with your words when it’s showtime.

Tip #7

Since these words are ones you’ll likely cherish forever, you could turn them into the ultimate keepsake by hanging them in a shadow box in your bedroom, or even hiring a calligrapher to write them out into a beautiful piece of art.
